How can I use the options chain in Market Replay?

Copy to clipboard

Practise options ideas, such as buying calls on a breakout, by reading the chain for your symbol at the replay time.

  1. Open Market Replay and click the widgets icon (four squares with a plus) at the top right. Switch on Calls & Puts under Widgets.
  2. The Calls & Puts widget shows the chain for the symbol of its group: calls on the left, puts on the right and the Strikes in the middle. Each side shows Last, Bid and Ask.
  3. Click the date under the header to pick an expiration. Each date lists how many contracts it has.
  4. Read across a strike to compare what its call and its put cost. Strikes close to the current price of the symbol are the at-the-money ones.
  5. Pick the strike and expiration you want to practise with, and use the numbers to plan your trade in the replay.

Tip: the chain follows the symbol of its group (the numbered badge in its header), so it changes when you load another ticker in a linked widget. If a symbol has no listed options at that time, the widget says there is no options chain.
