You changed your trade grouping, and now you have fewer trades, or more, and your win rate moved with them. Nothing is wrong with your data. The same executions were simply grouped into a different number of trades, and Win %, the trade count and every per-trade average follow the trade count.
Why it happens
Trade grouping decides one thing: when you go flat in a stock and then come back into the same stock, is that a new trade or the same one?
- Split When Possible (the default for new accounts): the trade closes every time your position goes flat, however soon you re-enter.
- Normal: if you re-enter the same symbol less than 1 hour after going flat, it stays in the same trade. An hour or more apart is a new trade.
Either way, going through zero in one order (for example from long to short) starts a new trade. The setting applies to stocks, options, futures and spot crypto; forex, CFD and leveraged crypto follow your broker’s own positions.
An example
One stock, one account. Amounts are illustrative, gross, with no fees.
- 9:30: buy 100 shares at $100.
- 9:45: sell 100 shares at $101. You are flat, and that round trip made +$100.
- 10:10: buy 100 shares at $102.
- 10:20: sell 100 shares at $101.50. That round trip made -$50.
| Trade grouping | Trades | Each trade | Win % | Total P&L |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Split When Possible | 2 | +$100 and -$50 | 50% | +$50 |
| Normal | 1 | +$50 | 100% | +$50 |
You went flat at 9:45 and came back 25 minutes later, which is under an hour, so Normal keeps it as one trade. The money is identical (+$50 both ways). What changes is the count, and Win % is winners divided by closed trades, so the losing round trip disappears inside a winning trade. If you had waited an hour or more before buying again, both settings would show two trades.
How to decide
- Want quick re-entries in the same stock to read as one idea? Use Normal.
- Want every round trip to stand on its own in your stats? Use Split When Possible.
- When you change it, TraderSync asks whether to apply it to new trades only, or to new and existing trades. Regrouping existing trades rebuilds them, and the notes, setups and other details attached to them are removed.
To change the setting, see how to change your trade grouping. It’s in Settings, Trades, under Trade Grouping.
